Compliance with the European regulatory framework is not merely a legal obligation, but also a strategic factor for business resilience, competitiveness, and the continuation of their operations in the market.
In this context, we would like to remind you of the importance of complying with the European Union requirements for registering products on the EPREL platform, which applies to all businesses that place products bearing an energy label on the EU market.
What is the EPREL platform and what are your obligations?
The EPREL platform was established under Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 (Framework Regulation) and requires the registration of all energy-related products before they are placed on the EU market.
Since 2019, the platform automatically generates the energy label in PDF format as well as a QR Code linked to the public registration of the product. The label must be clearly and legibly displayed on the product or its packaging, in accordance with the Regulatory Annex and the official guidelines (Manufacturer Guidelines 2024, Delegated Acts).
The European Commission emphasizes that the QR Code must be:
• Readable
• Of appropriate size (≥ 1 cm x 1 cm)
• Positioned visibly with high contrast
Procedure of registration of energy goods on the EPREL platform:
A. Create an EPREL Account
• Log in via EU Login or create a new account
• Verify company details with official documents (e.g., certificate of incorporation)
B. Product Registration
• Select the appropriate category (e.g., refrigerators, washing machines)
• Complete all required fields: brand name, model code, technical specifications
C. Label & QR Code Generation
• Options:
o Automatic label generation by EPREL
o Upload your own label (according to specifications)
• The system generates:
o PDF energy label
o QR Code linked to the public entry
Why is compliance important?
Proper registration ensures that your products carry the required energy label and QR Code, providing consumers with reliable information and strengthening your company’s competitiveness. Conversely, non-compliance may lead to penalties and restrictions on market availability. Compliance is not optional. It is a prerequisite for the uninterrupted placement of your products on the EU market.
For full compliance, we recommend always following the official the official EPREL technical documentation (User Manual, Delegated Acts) and the European Commission guidelines.
For any further information please visit the official website of the EPREL platform, and/or call 22889749/69/66 or email eency@ccci.com.cy.
