International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste – Invitation to event

We would like to inform you that the Department of Environment, within the framework of the LIFE IP CYzero WASTE Project, “Smart Monitoring and Efficient Waste Reduction in Cyprus,” is organizing an event on the occasion of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, which is celebrated annually on September 29th, following the decision of the UN General Assembly in December 2019.

The event will take place on Friday, September 27th, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Olympic House, in the OPAP “Fair Play” Hall, Nicosia.

During the event, participants will be informed about:

• The Food Surplus Donation Procedures Guide, which was prepared by the Department of Environment in collaboration with the Health Services Department of the Ministry of Health.
• The Actions of the LIFE IP CYzero WASTE Project, aimed at preventing and reducing the generation of food and agricultural waste.
• Best practices for preventing and reducing food waste, with an emphasis on initiatives already being implemented in Cyprus to address this issue.
