Green Tax Reform – Water Taxation
We would like to inform you that the Water Development Department, as part of the consultation process with stakeholders regarding the Green Tax Reform and Water Taxation, has prepared an amended proposal for the Unified Water Management (Rights, Fees, or other Financial Considerations) Regulations of 2017 to 2023 (attached).
The purpose of the proposal is to implement the environmental and resource tax recommended by the experts of the Green Tax Reform in the following categories:
(a) Provision of potable water from Government Water Projects/Government Water Supply Systems to water supply providers – increase of the fee by €0.01/m3.
(b) Provision of potable water from non-Government Water Projects sources (drillings, springs, rivers) – increase of the fee by €0.01/m3.
(c) Provision of fresh untreated irrigation water from Government Water Projects/Government Irrigation Networks for the irrigation of football fields and green areas – increase of the fee by €0.06/m3.
(d) Receipt of irrigation water from sources outside Government Water Projects (drillings) for the irrigation of fields, islands, parks, green areas, hotel gardens, golf courses, etc. – increase of the fee by €0.02/m3 up to €0.23/m3.
(e) Provision of recycled water for the irrigation of football fields, islands, parks, green areas, hotel gardens, golf courses, etc. – increase of the fee by €0.06/m3 up to €0.08/m3.
