Implementation of the European Regulation 2021/2117 on the labelling and presentation of wine products
As of December 8, 2023 a new Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2021/2117 will be applied and will make some significant changes regarding the labelling of wine products (wines).
In particular, the new provisions impose that additional mandatory indications should appear in the same field of vision and using the same font size as the other mandatory indications. These indications concern the nutrition declaration, the list of ingredients, the date of minimum durability and the final date of consumption (“to be consumed by”).
In addition, the list of ingredients must be included on the packaging or on the label in the same field of vision and using the same font size as the other mandatory indications in the form of an electronic QR code (Quick Response code) or equivalent (2D or 1D). The QR code, when scanned, should refer to a webpage that only lists the ingredients without including other information intended for sale or marketing or collection of information. The website to which the user will be referred to may additionally include a full nutrition declaration, other than to simply indicating the energy value.
For this purpose, the CCCI has created an online platform on which those affected will be able to register to upload the data required by the Regulation. The CCCI will also provide the QR codes for each of the products that fall under this obligation.
Interested parties are kindly requested to express their interest in writing to the Officer of the Department of Industrial Development, Innovation and Environment of the CCCI, Mr. Michalis Koullouros, at the e-mail address m.koullouros@ccci.org.cy no later than 31 July 2023. After the declaration of interest, presentations will be organized to inform the interested parties.
