The seminar, titled “Intellectual Property and the Advanced Framework Agreement: Exploring Opportunities for SMEs in Chile and the European Union”, will take place on 16 January 2026 at 14:00 and will be held online, in English and Spanish.

The event will bring together leading experts in Intellectual Property (IP), who will present practical insights on how European and Chilean Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) can leverage the Advanced Framework Agreement (AFA) to expand internationally, protect their innovations, and access new markets.

PDF – Webinar – Exploring Opportunities for SMEs in Chile & EU

We would like to inform you that the Customs Department has issued a circular regarding the full implementation of Regulation (EU) 2023/956 establishing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) as of 1 January 2026, which aims to address greenhouse gas emissions.

Specifically, the circular states that goods falling under the Regulation (cement, aluminium, iron, steel, electricity, fertilizers) and imported into the customs territory of the Union must be imported only by an authorised CBAM declarant, meaning an importer or their indirect representative who is registered in the CBAM Registry. The competent authority for the CBAM Registry is the Department of Environment.

It is also noted that the importer or their indirect representative is exempt from the obligations arising from the Regulation when the net mass of imported goods in a given calendar year does not cumulatively exceed 50 tonnes.

PDF – Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) inform you regarding the significant change in the tax framework concerning the abolition of the Stamp Duty Laws (1963 to 2025), which came into effect as of January 1, 2026.

According to the official announcement of the Tax Department dated 7/1/2026 (N. 239(I)/2025), the following are clarified:

• New Documents: Any document drafted and signed after 01/01/2026 is no longer subject to stamp duty.
• Pending Documents: Documents signed (even by one contracting party) by 31/12/2025 are normally subject to stamp duty, as defined in the Stamp Duty Laws of 1963 to 2025, and must be stamped based on the applicable procedures.
• Use of Existing Stamps: Authorized Stamp Vendors may continue to sell only the stamps they already have in their possession, so that documents subject to stamp duty are duly stamped.
• Other Legislations: The payment of fees based on the Legislations of other Ministries / Services / Departments may continue with the use of existing stamps circulating in the market, until new relevant arrangements are made by the competent authorities.
