Public Consultation on a proposal for a Directive on regulations promoting the repair of goods

On 22 March 2023, the European Commission adopted a Proposal for a Directive on Common Rules Promoting the Repair of Goods. This legislation, which amends Regulation (EU) 2017/2394 and Directives (EU) 2019/771 and (EU) 2020/1828, aims to save consumers money. In addition, it supports the objectives of the European Green Deal as it will help reduce waste.

This need is illustrated by the tendency of consumers to choose replacement instead of repair, when products become defective, while the incentives provided to consumers to repair their products after the expiration of the legal warranty are insufficient. The proposed legislation will make repair easier and more cost-effective for consumers, as opposed to replacing products.
In the context of the adoption of the Proposal for a Directive, the Consumer Protection Service of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, is conducting a Public Consultation to collect views, comments and suggestions.
